Land Readjustment (LR) is a means of assembling land for urban expansion or redevelopment. In LR, the original landowners or occupants voluntarily contribute a certain percentage of their land to the government or other project initiators. The government then plans out the whole area with roads, infrastructure, open space, and public facilities, while in some cases also reserves land for sale and other social purposes. In return, each landowner receives a serviced plot of a smaller area, but often at a much higher value within the same neighborhood. This is a win-win situation in which the government can upgrade the neighborhood without having to use its power of eminent domain (expropriation), and the landowners can remain in-situ and enjoy better living conditions and an increase in the value of their real assets.

Therefore, this course aims to help policymakers and practitioners understand the general concepts and empirical applications of land readjustment by illustrating real-world examples.
