Like so many people, Abdulrahim Hassan Muhammad moved from his first home-country (Khor Baranga), the quiet village in West Darfur, to the "Um Dafuq" area in South Darfur, whose name was associated with the Um Dafuq Dam, and which formed a new reality in people's lives as well as their social and economic security.
Abdulrahim’s conditions improved due to his independence, hard work, and diligence in fishing from the Um Dafuq Dam Lake, so he became an expert in preparing "kejik" (dried fish) and fresh fish, targeting the state's local markets and where the price of a pound of "kejik" reached 3500 pounds.
Perhaps the question that we might ask in this story would be: How many trade and profession have been undertaken in dam projects, and what extent is the size of the change that occurred in the outcomes and economies of the local communities in those areas after witnessing an active movement in agriculture and fishing, livestock, brick making, and many other trades and occupations?
