Street addressing is an invaluable tool for city management, although often misunderstood. It provides an opportunity to (a) create or update a map of the city that can be used by different municipal departments, (b) conduct a systematic survey that collects targeted information on the city, its services, businesses and population and (c) set up a database on the built environment that is, too often, unavailable.
