The Supreme Council for Planning and Development affirmed that Kuwait has achieved a large part of the sustainable development goals beyond the year 2015 with the intention to move to be one of the first achieving the goals in full.

The Secretary-General of the Council, Mr. Khaled Mahdi, said during a workshop that was entitled "Achieving the eighth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals - Decent Work" that Kuwait committed on 25 September 2015, during the United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development, to the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which contains 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) beyond 2015 and addresses the three pillars of social, economic and environmental development of a global nature. He explained that there are 11 targets for SDG 8 where the most important of which is to promote a safe work environment for all workers and to promote development-oriented policies that support productive activities and decent work opportunities.
